User’s Guide

The users’s guide assists the teachers, staff and students in using library’sfacilities and services more efficiently.  This Guide introduces you to our library’s rules, policies and procedures, services, collection, and staff. It familiarizes faculty, staff and students with our library services and explains how these can use different types of information to suit their study needs.

MIMIT has set up following Library Rules:-

For Students

  1. The books shall be issued to students for 30 days after which the same must be returned / reissued .
  2. If the books are not returned / reissued on the due date, an overdue charges @ Rs 1/-(One Rupees) per book per day will be charged for the  period, the books are kept beyond the due date
  3. In case a book is lost or mutilated by the borrower, he/she shall bear the cost of replacement which is twice the cost of book. If a book is a part of the volume set, the reader will have to replace the whole set.
  4. Reserve books, Reference books, Rare books, Dissertations, Project Reports, Newspapers and Periodicals are not issued generally except with  the written permission of the Principal.
  5. The books may be renewed if the same are not in demand or are not reserved by other readers. The reissue will be done generally on the physical presentation of the books.
  6. Library books will be issued to students on the Library cum I-Card, every time a book is borrowed or returned.
  7. The loss of Library cum I-Card should immediately be communicated to the Librarian so that the library staff may keep an eye upon the issue of books on the lost Library cum I-card.
  8. The students who is Library cum I-card has been lost will be held responsible for books issued on such card to any one.
  9. Sticks, umbrellas, handbags, boxes and other eating and drinking material are not allowed in the library except the Mobile Phone, Labtops/Tablets (only silent mode) and Note Books.
  10. The students are expected to read notice board/Library Blog published by the Librarian from time to time. No excuse will be entertained for ignorance of information notified earlier.
  11. In the interest of the fellow readers, Perfect order and silence should be maintained in the library at all times. Any infringement of this rule will be punished with a fine or loss of privilege to use the library for a specified period..
  12. If the book is found defected or damaged in anyway the lost borrower will be required to replace the book or pay double the price as damages. The borrower should therefore examine the book and call attention of issuing authority to the defect detected at the time of issue of the book. The issuing authority will sign on the book as evidence of the same.
  13. A No Due Certificate is given to the borrower as per norms of the Board of Governor(BOG) laws. (As per Bye law 22.4 c, The securities remaining unclaimed for two semesters succeeding the end of the semesters in which the students left the institute either by completing a particular course or otherwise shall lapse).
  14. Any student found guilty of keeping a book or other library material illegally with his/her entry will be banned and strict action will be taken.
  15. The audio video material issue for one day, if any discrepancy on audio video material the reader shall bear double cost of the complete set.
  16. Books on the loan may be recalled at any time by Librarian.
  17. Member shall not mark of damage the books and other library property. If any member infringes the rules he/she will required to bear the loss as well as disciplinary action.
  18. Users can use personal books at Reading Hall 1.
  19. Four library books will be issued to all the classes.

Library Timings 

Library will open as per following schedule:

  • Monday to Friday: 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM
  • During Exam days: 9.00 AM to 1.00 AM
  • Issue Timings: 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM and 2.00 PM to 5.00 PM.

For Faculty and Staff

  1. The books shall be issued to faculty and staff for 180 days after which the same must be returned / reissued .
  2. If the books are not returned / reissued on the due date, an overdue charges @ 50 paise per book per day will be charged for the  period, the books are kept beyond the due date

  • Professor : 12, Associate Professor : 10, Assistant Professor : 8 or Equivalent Status in Teaching
  • Registrar : 8, Deputy Registrar : 6, Assistant Registrar : 4, Others Non-Teaching Staff : 2
  • Librarian : 12, Assistant Librarian : 6, Library Assistant: 4, Other Library Staff : 2

For Students

MIMIT Central Library Membership Form is available in the Information Brochure and each student should submit the duly filled form at the time of their admission along with other forms. Students can also download Membership Form from this site or get from Ms. Sukhwinder Kaur ( Junior Assistant-Library)

Procedure for Library Membership

  1. Fill the Library Membership Form in Capital Letters only and affix 1 and attach 1 unattested (Total 2) Passport Size Photograph.
  2. Get attested it from Coordinator Academics.
  3. Submit the duly filled Library Membership Form to Ms. Sukhwinder Kaur ( Junior Assistant-Library).
  4. MIMIT Central Library will open their Library Membership Account within one or two days . Thereafter MIMIT Central Library staff will inform (through Library Notice) to all the First Year Students (including LEET Students) about issue of their Library Membership card.
  5. After Collect the Library Membership Card and Member Account Password, students can use all library services.

For Faculty and Staff (Regular and Contract)

Faculty and Staff members can  download Membership Form from this site or get from Ms. Sukhwinder Kaur ( Junior Assistant-Library).

Procedure for Library Membership

  1. Fill the Library Membership Form in Capital Letters only and affix 1 and attach 1 unattested (Total 2) Passport Size Photograph.
  2. Get attested it from Principal.
  3. Submit the duly filled Library Membership Form to Ms. Sukhwinder Kaur ( Junior Assistant-Library).
  4. MIMIT Central Library will open their Library Membership Account within one day. Thereafter MIMIT Central Library staff will inform about issue of their Library Membership card.

For Faculty and Staff (Temporary/Adhoc/Semester Base)

Faculty and Staff members can  download Membership Form from this site or get from Ms. Sukhwinder Kaur ( Junior Assistant-Library).

Procedure for Library Membership

  1. Fill the Library Membership Form in Capital Letters only and affix 1 and attach 1 unattested (Total 2) Passport Size Photograph.
  2. Get attested it from Head/Incharge of the Department.
  3. Submit the duly filled Library Membership Form to Ms. Sukhwinder Kaur ( Junior Assistant-Library).
  4. MIMIT Central Library will open their Library Membership Account within one day. Thereafter MIMIT Central Library staff will inform about issue of their Library Membership card.
  5. After Collect the Library Membership Card and Member Account Password, faculty and Staff members can use all library services.

MIMIT Central Library has been established Book Bank for SC/ST category students with the grant received from Social Welfare Department, Govt. of Punjab. Book Bank is providing 6 books (as per availablity) to the SC/ST student for the complete semester in the beginning of each academic session, apart from the normal facility of lending 4 books from Central Library.

Procedure for Membership of Book Bank

  • Get the Book Bank Membership Form from Ms. Shikha, Library Assistant or download  Book Bank Membership Form
  • Fill form properly and get it attested from Incharge Academics.
  • Submit the dully filled Book Bank Membership Form to Ms. Shikha, Library Assistant.
  • MIMIT Central Library will open their Library Membership Account within one or two days . Thereafter MIMIT Central Library staff will inform (through Library Notice) to all the First Year Students (including LEET Students) about issue of their Book Bank Membership Card.
  • After Collect the Book Bank Membership Card and Member Account Password, students can use all book bank services.

MIMIT has fully stocked and well equipped central library to cater the needs of students, teachers and researchers. In this regard, Library is providing following services:

  • Current Awareness Service
  • Selective Dissemination of Information
  • Inter Library Loan
  • Document Delivery Service
  • Printing Service
  • Online Service

MIMIT Central Library is interlinked with Developing Library Network (DELNET). At present more than 3000 libraries are interlinked with this network. These libraries can share these resources through DELNET. If any user want to require any book or article which is not available in our library, but required book and article is available in DELNET Database or Member Libraries, these books and articles providing through Inter Library Loan, but the charges will be paid by user. The charges for this services are 4 times courier charges on demanded book/s and book/s will be return to the parent library as their rules. In the case of article two times courier charges and Rs. 2/- per page photocopy charges will be extra.

In General

1. All the users of MIMIT Central Library will submit all issued library material and deposit all the fines (If any).

2. All the users will submit their Dissertations/Project Reports in university perscribed format on CD or through ETD submission

Refund of Security Deposits

As per Bye law 22.4 c, The securities remaining unclaimed for two semesters succeeding the end of the semesters in which the students left the institute either by completing a particular course or otherwise shall lapse.
